Client profile

Texas National Bank is a local community bank with nine branches serving the extreme southern tip of the state. Founded over 100 years ago, TNB has approximately $800M in total assets and continues to grow.

The challenge

As a small community bank, TNB faced challenges in attracting, hiring and retaining staff with the experience and technical skills to help the bank maintain network security, operational efficiencies and a streamlined customer experience.

“Building a technical team with the right mixture of skills is an expensive proposition and difficult to accomplish, especially for a smaller organization,” explains Tom Bynum, SVP and CIO at TNB.

The solution

TNB first partnered with us in 2016 for FIS® Horizon. To address the need for security, patching vulnerability, network and intrusion monitoring, and overall operational efficiencies, the bank decided to expand the relationship by bringing in FIS Managed IT Services.

Managed IT works as a dedicated extension of a financial institution’s IT team. By providing comprehensive infrastructure and support, Managed IT simplifies the IT environment, improves stability and security, and frees institutions to focus on customers instead of technology.

The decision to migrate to Managed IT was made prior to Tom joining the bank but aligned with his vision for supporting a fast-growing organization.

“The Managed IT, Managed Security Services and Managed Networking teams from FIS provided the exact mixture of skill specialization I knew we would need to grow and support the company,” said Tom.

The results

Managed IT enables TNB’s small team to address the full breadth of IT concerns, from information and network security to operating and customer efficiencies.

“Having that dedicated team to manage secure configuration and networking, patching, vulnerability management and intrusion detection provides great value for our organization because it allows us to focus on operational aspects of the business,” explains Tom.

He also appreciated the FIS team’s project management skills and focus that contributed to a smooth implementation.

“Our migration to SD-WAN has worked fantastic from a BCP perspective,” he said. “It's been 100% uptime since we moved to SD-WAN. And because of the configuration, we save a lot of money versus a more traditional architecture through one of the bigger providers.”

“The managed security model was paramount to keeping the institution moving along and having resources available. The team’s depth of experience and breadth of knowledge has been highly valuable,” Tom also stated.
